In my mind, two things give a successful act longevity: strong lyrics and bonified musicianship. This group clearly has both. Flotsam and Jetsam have always put out great albums, but I Am the Weapon is really the fourth album in a row from a re-energized lineup, that is seemingly as hungry as it was since their ‘80s inception.
Flotsam and Jetsam is a thrash act band from Phoenix, Arizona whose origins date back to 1981!
The group has released fourteen studio albums throughout their career, with number fifteen, I Am the Weapon due to hit the streets September 13th via AFM Records.
Metal fans are certainly aware of this polished metal outfit which has been around close to three decades now. Flotsam has gone through numerous lineup changes over the years, leaving vocalist Eric ‘A.K.’ Knutson as the only constant member. Nevertheless, I feel this current lineup is undoubtedly one of their best.
The exemplary works of Ken Mary (Drums) and Bill Bodily (Bass) have helped solidify this structure of success.
Lyrically, this act is healthier than ever. The vocals of Erik A.K. Knutson haven’t lost a thing. If anything, he sounds stronger since the words seem more accommodating to the voice. His vocals are passionate sincere but always delivered with amazing power and skill. Highlight tracks for me are: “Primal”, “I Am the Weapon”, “Head of the Sanke”, “Gates Of Hell”, “Kings of the Underworld” and “Black Wings”.
Once again, Flotsam and Jetsam have proven why they are still a force to be reckoned with. Delivering quality metal with a bite. Check out I Am The Weapon and let the rabid anthems of Flotzilla provoke you! \m/
