The Judas Paradox has a hauntingly grandiose quality that has come to define the God Dethroned sound.
God Dethroned is a Dutch extreme metal band formed by guitarist/vocalist Henri Sattler back in 1990.
Originally conceived as a death metal band, the sound of God Dethroned has changed over the years, shifting from melodic death metal to the blackened thrash act we currently experience today.
With eleven studio albums under their belt and number twelve, The Judas Paradox, due to hit the streets September 6th via Reigning Phoenix Music, God Dethroned is once again primed for another chance in the spotlight or blacklight, if it’s the darkness you prefer…
The Judas Paradox has a hauntingly grandiose quality that has come to define the God Dethroned sound. The group’s last effort, Illuminati (2020), seemingly marked this shift.
Previous to this was their ‘World War trilogy’, in which God Dethroned seemed more interested in speed and intensity than ambiance. With Illuminati the group returned to their roots and that bloody wound has been opened further with The Judas Paradox.
A vicious revisitation of anti-religious and satanic themes, defining the devil as an imposing character whose homage requires an approach so ambitious it challenges the fabric of metal.
If you listen to God Dethroned you likely appreciate a good guitar solo, this new effort contains some of the best solos I’ve ever heard by this band. The music seems to have come full circle. The Judas Paradox is a unique blend of the band’s classical sound framed within a nefarious atmosphere. Highlight tracks for me are: “The Judas Paradox”, “Rat Kingdom”, “Kashmir Princess”, “Broken Bloodlines” & “War Machine”.
In this day and age, reinvention, is no easy task but God Dethroned has managed to keep their trademark identity while revamping their sound. A dark, almost spooky setting, plunging the listener into the middle of a Brothers Grim fairy tale. A violent end for an alleged villain, a bitter pill for those ready to devour. Check out The Judas Paradox and let the absurdity of God Dethroned impact you! \m/
