Deathcore is a genre of music that seems to have gone stagnant these past few years. I should know, I listen to extreme metal regularly and found myself hunting down old Bloodbath and Immolation albums. There just didn’t seem to be anything new worth getting into until I discovered Ingested.
Typically, this time of year I listen to Fantasy Football podcasts when I have my daily ‘shower beer’. For those of you who don’t know, these are the beer(s) you consume whilst taking a shower. Personally, I find these the most refreshing beverages of the day. Anyway, since I am not playing fantasy this year, I’ve been listening to extreme metal on YouTube and I came across a band named Ingested. Listening to the album, Ashes Lie Still I nearly shit myself which obviously would have been gross but ok since I was in the shower…
Ingested is a death metal act from Manchester, England formed in 2006. The band has released seven studio albums since their formation, the latest The Tide of Death and Fractured Dreams, was unveiled in April 2024 via Metal Blade Records.

A bit of research told me they played the Summer Slaughter Tour back in 2016. I was there. I covered the tour and interviewed Krisiun but somehow missed out on Ingested. Listening to their previous works led me to the conclusion Ashes Lie Still is by far the band’s best effort thus far. I realize the band’s fifth studio album, Where Only Gods May Tread, is a decent release. It was named one of Metal Hammer’s top 50 metal albums of 2020 but Ingested seems to have really put it all together with this latest effort. Its deathcore laced with variety; every song seems to have its own thing going on.
The Tide of Death and Fractured Dreams is a fucking brutal record. The perfect mix of deathcore elements and slam make this an aggressively energetic blend. It could be considered less dynamic than the band’s previous effort, Ashes Lie Still, but it’s a lot more aggressive. The new mixes make a huge difference. The sound quality is absolutely prefect. The vocal collaborations with Josh Middelton (Sylosis) and Mark Hunter (Chimaira) are a massive bonus. Highlight tracks for me are: “Endless Machine”, “Expect To Fail”, “Starve The Fire”, “In Nothingness” and “Kingdoms Of Sand.”
The time has come to digest some new metal. Devour the sounds of Ingested and let the brutality of deathcore shake some organs inside you! \m/
