The music video itself has a very futuristic cyberpunk feel, like Blade Runner meets Hellraiser. In a rundown dystopic society, a decaying future where even the sunlight seems drab, the band urges us not to be afraid of our plight or the dark.
Motionless In White is a hybrid metalcore group from Pennsylvania, formed in 2004. The band’s music has been described as a blend of metalcore, gothic metal and industrial metal. The song titles and lyrics are predominantly horror based and why the band’s sound has been dubbed ‘horror metal’.
Motionless In White has released six full-length albums so far. The song and music video for “Afraid Of The Dark”, which is the band’s first new material since 2023, is a celebration of the band’s twenty-year history and a reflection of their undying resilience. It will serve as the first single from the group’s upcoming seventh studio album, which is expected to arrive sometime this year.
Motionless In White has become one of my favorite bands, I own a couple of their records, and I think it’s cool hearing how their sound has evolved over time.
For example, Creatures, is largely a metalcore album featuring heavy breakdowns and melodic choruses.
Infamous, expanded on their metalcore sound by adding some industrial and electronic elements.
Reincarnate featured the addition of gothic elements, mimicking bands like Marilyn Manson or Cradle of Filth.
Graveyard Shift is seemingly a blend of the first two releases, with a fade to the gothic foundations
“Afraid Of The Dark” takes this evolution and goes for broke. The song stands as a culmination of the band’s previous efforts. I love the references to older songs hidden in these lyrics.

A performance offering where the song lyrics are at the forefront. The message is uplifting in a fight for what you believe in sort of way. The imagery of the group as ghosts is timely and seems to fit with the wind climax towards the end of the video perfectly.
