I think the real purpose behind this music video is to introduce Lauren Hart as the new vocalist for Arch Enemy and to prove to the world she has both the stage presence and vocal prowess to do it.
Like the rest of the metal universe, when I heard about Alissa White-Gluz leaving Arch Enemy, I was taken by surprise. Will To Power (2017) is one of my favorite Arch Enemy albums and along with Wages Of Sin (2001) they’re on my home stereo quite regularly.
With Alissa White-Gluz now embarking on a solo career who will front Arch Enemy? At first glance, it seemed obvious Angela Gossow would re-take the reins but that was not the case.
The new vocalist of Arch Enemy is Lauren Hart. Hart is an American vocalist, best known as the singer and rhythm guitarist of the melodic death metal / groove metal band Once Human.
Once Human, formed by Logan Mader of Machine Head and Soulfly fame, is a California act established back in 2014. The band’s last studio effort was, Scar Weaver, released back in 2022. The status of Once Human is currently unknown.
“To The Last Breath” is a largely a performance offering with some theatrical clips woven in. I might discuss the role of the masked creatures or the idea of teleportation and or transport in this video but what’s the point?

I think the on-screen interaction between Michael Amott and Lauren Hart is not coincidental. In my mind, it’s recognition that this is her gig now and reinforcement to the world that she’s going to be good at it.
Vocally, Arch Enemy loses nothing. Hart is like a combination of Gossow and White-Gluz. She can growl with the best of them, but her clean vocals are also present and fit the style of the band.
It appears Lauren Hart’s addition to Arch Enemy is going to be a positive one. Check out “To The Last Breath” and let this new rendition of God’s nemesis entertain you! \m/
