The video is a feast for the eyes, a slasher’s paradise come to life.
I don’t know about you but I’m excited to see Scream 7. When I saw the original film back in 1996, I never could have imagined the series would reach seven instalments but here we are.
The film franchise has always held strong ties to heavy metal so it’s no surprise and up and coming act like Ice Nine Kills would be featured on the latest soundtrack. Honestly, it’s not Ice Nine’s first trip to Woodsboro either, the band released the song “Your Number’s Up”, a Scream-inspired bonus track which is featured on the 2019 deluxe release The Silver Scream (FINAL CUT).
The track is focused on the opening of the original Scream film, a sequence featuring Drew Barrymore who is infamously being killed off within the first 15 minutes of the film, a daring feat that became a movie staple for all of Wes Craven‘s follow-ups in the series.
In addition, Ice Nine Kills frontman, Spencer Charnas, also appeared in Demi Lovato‘s Scream VI (2023) music video “Still Alive,” which was co-written by Linkin Park‘s Mike Shinoda.
Ice Nine Kills is metalcore band from Massachusetts. The group has originated in some form since 2000, originally called Ice Nine, the name was changed to Ice Nine Kills prior to their 2006 release, Last Chance to Make Amends. The band name is derived from a fictional substance called, ice-nine, taken from the novel Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut.
The band’s music has been described as horror-themed metalcore which is perfect for a Scream release. The video is a feast for the eyes, a slasher’s paradise come to life. The duet between Scream 7 cast member, Mckenna Grace, and Spencer Charnas is simply outstanding.
I’d be lying if I didn’t say I love the heavy stuff, but Spencer’s clean vocals are amazing, it’s not often he gets to really show it off. That being said, it would’ve been nice to have some heavy metalcore shit woven in, even if it was short-lived. An angry breakdown would’ve been badass! Don’t you think they should have done it? Especially with a song title like “Twisting Knife”!
All in All, this is a pretty cool effort. It doesn’t feature any footage from the new Scream movie, but there’s a great cameo by David Arquette as the video director. His banter with The Jerky Boys creator, Johnny Brennan, is hilarious. It’s no wonder this music video has over 5 million views.
Either way, Ice Nine Kills is once again in the spotlight. Check out the “Twisting Knife” music video and remember Scream killers always work in pairs.
If you vanquish one, remember there’s always another creeping around ready to twist the knife! \m/
