This is my first exposure to the band so I can’t tell you if new vocalist, Andrew Downie, is a better fit than their former frontman Sam Field. What I can say is that the music on the Serpentine EP is a unique blend of brutal metalcore with a heavy emphasis on the groove.
Catalysis is a groove metal/metalcore act from Dundee, Scotland established in 2016.
The band has maintained a consistent self-release schedule and has unleashed an impressive back catalogue of five EPs and two full length albums since their inception.
Their latest offering, Serpentine, just hit the streets back on April 17th 2026.
I’ve read that the group has experienced a lot of lineup changes, including the replacement of their lead singer. This is my first exposure to the band so I can’t tell you if new vocalist, Andrew Downie, is better a fit than their former frontman Sam Field. What I can say is that the music on the Serpentine EP is a unique blend of brutal metalcore with a heavy emphasis on the groove.
The past is the past and this current lineup seems to click on so many levels. The guitar solos are amazing! Highlight tracks for me are: “Tremors”, “Serpentine” and “Deathblow”.
Catalysis has a full festival schedule lined up for the upcoming summer and I hope it’s enough exposure to land them a legitimate record deal, they truly deserve it. Check out the music of Catalysis and let the musical fury of Serpentine wrap its coils around you! \m/
