This is a message about non-conformity. A literal anthem of non-compliance and defiance. We have no option but to refuse and resist. A performance offering that is sure to get your blood flowing, this banner is an affirmation that Prong isn’t hanging it up anytime soon.
I’ve been a fan of Prong for years and I’ve known Tommy Victor about as long.
Here’s what I would say about Prong and Tommy’s career, the guy is as viable as he is relentless. He’s a master songwriter who consistently plays to his strengths as a lyricist, churning out memorable songs that have done nothing less than enhanced the Prong legacy.
Tommy Victor is a consummate musician who literally knows everybody in the business. When you think about his relationships with pinnacle bands like Pantera or metal/punk royalty like Danzig, you are only scratching the surface of an artist whose made connections worth a lifetime. Whenever I do an interview with Prong I end up with more questions, tidbits of information I failed to capitalize on when in the movement. Tommy is like the ‘Encyclopedia Metallum’ website made flesh, a literal plethora of metal and punk with a history of human interactions to stand behind it. I can’t tell you how many bands I discovered re-listening to my past Prong interviews.
Tommy has an ear for talent; it seems like past artists who’ve played in Prong seemingly move on to other projects that draw them even closer to the limelight. I’m glad a had the chance to interact with drummer, Art Cruz, who went from Prong to Lamb of God. I have no doubt the new Prong members: Christopher Dean (Bass) and Tyler Bogliole (Drums) are exactly what the group needs to drive forward.
Last time I spoke with Tommy he’d recently moved and had an addition to his family. Although I understood his relationship with Glen Danzig wouldn’t necessarily end anytime soon, I did wonder about the Prong moniker continuing. While there’s no doubt, Tommy Victor has earned the right to end Prong on his own terms, I’m glad the band is back with a revamped lineup and a mentality that is seemingly as feisty as ever!
I think the song and music video for “The Banner” epitomizes this direction perfectly. This is a message about non-conformity. A literal anthem of non-compliance and defiance. We have no option but to refuse and resist. A performance offering that is sure to get your blood flowing, this banner is an affirmation that Prong isn’t hanging it up anytime soon.
Prong’s fifteenth self -titled studio effort is set to be released on November 6th 2026 via Napalm Records. If “The Banner” is any indication of the volatility of the new material, I’m sold.
Also, wanted to mention I noticed a cover of “Cruel Summer” by Bananarama has been included with the new release. Not one to shy away from controversy, Tommy Victor will no doubt entertain some wild publicity from this inclusion. Until this album drops, I urge you to waive your banner and check out this new music video. Prong is back! \m/
