This whole development has left me shellshocked. A band that has seemingly progressed into oblivion has now reclaimed its roots with a bloodthirsty force?
Bring Me The Horizon is a metal band from Sheffield, England, established back in 2004. The group has been evolving musically since their inception.
Initially, Bring Me The Horizon started out as a deathcore band with their debut effort Count Your Blessings. Unveiled back in 2006, this record is included in Revolver Magazine‘s 2021 article, 15 Essential Deathcore Albums. I’ve always considered it a trendsetting release, an effort that still holds up. An undisputed intensity that hasn’t wavered in nearly twenty years.
The group adopted more of a metalcore sound with their second album Suicide Season – 2008 and has been evolving ever since. Moving away from the deathcore sound that made them famous, Bring Me The Horizon now utilizes elements of alternative metal, electronica and even pop music.
They went from a band I listened to regularly to a group I often made fun of. In response to criticism of their change in style, the band claimed they ‘evolved from teenage metalheads to mature songwriters’. The Count Your Blessings songs were dropped from live performances in the years that followed the release of Suicide Season and There Is a Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is a Heaven Let’s Keep It a Secret – 2010. It seemed like the deathcore days of Bring Me The Horizon were a thing of the past.
Unbelievably, in April (2026), the band announced a re-recording of their debut album, Count Your Blessings, in conjunction of its 20th anniversary. The re-recording, titled Count Your Blessings | Repented, will be released on July 10th, 2026, via RCA Records.
The anniversary edition will contain ten re-recorded tracks and a new eleventh track titled “Dehumanized”. A new music video for this song was just released to hype the effort!
This whole development has left me shellshocked. A band that has seemingly progressed into oblivion has now reclaimed its roots with a bloodthirsty force? The music video for “Dehumanized” is loaded with gore. The images are as punishing as the music.
Dehumanization is a breakdown of the human spirit. From physiological attacks, like the cutting of one’s hair, to physical attacks like the removal of a limb this offering is reprehensible enough to offend most viewers.
In fact, there’s disclaimer at video’s opening warning that viewer discretion is advised. The anti-birth scenes are especially distressing.
Bring Me The Horizon has seemingly come full circle with this release. The visuals and music are viciously vile enough to take back their deathcore throne but is that what this band truly wants to do?
Only time will tell, until then let the brutalizing vibe of Bring Me The Horizon unleash their poison within! \m/
