Jungle Rot is a death metal act from Kenosha, Wisconsin, formed back in 1992.
I’ve been following the band since their inception and have often considered them to be one of the most consistent extreme metal bands of all time.
Like a death metal version of Motorhead, Jungle Rot has one of the more steady and unwavering discographies in metal history, maintaining a laid-back no-nonsense approach to brutality for over 30 years. They rarely deviate from this oppressively successful style. The group has built a strong following which seemingly grows with each new offering.
So far, Jungle Rot has released eleven studio albums with number twelve, Cruel Face Of War, due to hit the streets on May 15th via Unique Leader Records. Two new music videos: “Maniacal” and “Apocalyptic Dawn” have just been released to hype the effort.
“Maniacal” is a theatrical offering featuring a woman that’s hell bent on hitting the town on her night off. She has the misfortune of crossing paths with a serial killer and is subsequently plucked off the street and thrown into the back of a van. Which, ironically, looks a lot like the van J-Rot tours with.
Weapons, chains and sheets of plastic, the kill room is set. The end doesn’t look good for our heroine, but we all know that’s the point.
The end shot of a missing person’s bulletin on the television screen seemingly says it all.
“Apocalyptic Dawn” in contrast, is a performance offering which shows off the band in all of their malicious death metal glory. Out of some fiery pit of hell we experience the group full throttle, a no holds barred offering of unbridled demonic anger!
Vocalist Dave Matrise looks scary! Like a black wizard ready to swallow your soul. His facial expressions appear as cold as the ice we see on set. The Dark Lord of Mordor would be pissing in his pants!
I think it’s awesome how Jungle Rot always manages to keep their identifiable style and sound. This is no bullshit, in your fucking face, death metal.
